Dr. Franke is
a chemist and a patent attorney with extensive experience in
intellectual property
law. He started his career with two established patent law firms
in Munich, working on cases in German and European patent law.
Thereafter, he worked as an attorney with a major US patent law firm,
working on prosecution and litigation cases as well as opinion work in
Munich, Boston and Atlanta.
The
main focus of his practice is on:
- drafting patent applications
- the prosecution of patent
applications before the patent offices
- defending patents in
opposition proceedings and opposition appeals before the European
patent office (EPO)
- registering and defending
trademarks
- litigation before the German
national courts and invalidity proceedings before the German patent
court (BPatG) and the Federal patent court (BGH)
Prior
to becoming a patent attorney Dr. Franke worked as a research scientist
in Germany and the USA. He has a broad technical background, in
particular in the following technical areas:
- chemistry, in particular process
engineering
- material sciences, in particular
new materials and nanotechnology
- polymers and new textil products
- mechanics
- software and processes
- medical technology, in particular
stents and implants
- pharmaceutical products
- biochemistry und
biotechnology
Dr. Franke received his doctoral
degree in Chemistry from the Research Center Julich and the Institute
of Technical Chemistry/University of Bonn (summa cum laude).
From 2001 to 2004 he was a research scientist at the Chemistry Department of the renowned Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) in
La Jolla/USA, also collaborating with Nobel Prize winner Barry Sharpless.
Dr.
Franke is the author of a significant number of peer reviewed
publications
in the fields of Chemistry and Engineering.
